Russian artillery surpasses American guns, RAND Corp. reported. after studying the military operations of the two powers. Due to the great attention to military aviation, the artillery of the US Armed Forces began to yield to Russian colleagues. This was reported by The National Interest magazine, citing experts from RAND Corporation.

The Pentagon actively used planes and helicopters during the Iraq and Afghanistan campaigns, it was the air forces that the US military used to provide fire support. Because of this, the article notes, US artillery “has much less experience and capabilities,” unlike Russian gunners.

Russian Army artillery is armed with powerful long-range howitzers, multiple launch rocket systems, earth-to-ground ballistic missiles and a variety of high-tech missile systems – for example, Iskanders.

RAND Corp. reports that the Pentagon can improve the situation. To do this, the US military needs to increase the number of its batteries, invest in the study and use of intelligence, and modernize the guns used by the US Army.

In addition, the United States should pay attention to foreign fire systems.

At the end of September 2018, the National Interest announced that Moscow had begun the modernization of the “god of war” – artillery. Experts emphasized the tactical and technical characteristics and combat capabilities of the Tulip self-propelled mortar and the Peony large-caliber howitzer.

“Russian cannons are capable of firing nuclear shells, and NATO would learn from their bitter experience their might if the Cold War grew into a hot one,” the article says.

At the same time, American analysts do not fully understand why Russia decided to pay attention to the old Soviet-made weapons. However, experts suggest that this is due to the lower cost of shells compared to missiles.

Another version says that artillery can be used by the Russian Armed Forces to “powder into powder” the fortifications of a potential enemy.

It is worth noting that US aviation was developed for a reason – the American and NATO squadrons outnumber the Russian Air Force in numbers.

In the event of a global conflict, domestic air forces will not be able to confront the conditional forces of the West for a long time. This was announced in February 2019 by military expert Konstantin Sivkov. Nevertheless, the air forces can theoretically successfully resist NATO forces in a local war in the territory of a third country – for example, Syria or Afghanistan.

According to the expert, the United States and its allies can create an air grouping of up to 2.5 thousand aircraft, of which 600 units are unmanned aerial vehicles, one and a half thousand helicopters, and 1.3 thousand are military aircraft of various models. In addition, the Americans and NATO can use up to 2 thousand cruise missiles at a time in battles.

Such an armada can be involved “in the case of an air campaign from two to three weeks to two months or more.” Sivkov emphasized that the key condition for the Russian Federation to successfully participate in such local conflicts is the creation of a “high-altitude radar field” and its stability in battles.

It is worth noting that Russia is ready to answer the global threat to its security – and not only the “nuclear baton”.

In the field of the latest weapons, Russia was literally ahead of the rest – the Western countries still failed to build analogs of hypersonic complexes presented by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The presentation of weapons by Putin caused a huge resonance in Russia and the world, and the US armed forces recognized that they currently have no protection against hypersonic weapons. At the same time, a year later, on February 20, 2019, Putin in his message announced the latest Zircon hypersonic missile.

“Here we are going to talk quietly about what we have there in the storeroom. So, about another promising new product, work on which is progressing successfully, and will certainly be completed by the scheduled time, namely, I want to say about the Zircon hypersonic missile, the president said. Putin noted that the speed of Zircon reaches 9 Mach numbers, it is capable of hitting targets at a distance of more than 1000 km.
